COLERIDGE-TAYLOR Clarinet Quintet, Op.10
MENDELSSOHN Octet in E-flat, Op. 20
Samuel Coleridge-Taylor remains one of the greatest Black composers of the 19th century, with his Clarinet Quintet a sheer demonstration of his gift for composing chamber music. A gift to his friend and violin teacher, Eduard Ritz, the then 16-year-old Felix Mendelssohn’s Octet in E-flat major provides a glimpse into the glorious mind of one of the 1800s greatest composers.
