TCHAIKOVSKY Serenade in C Major, "Serenade for Strings"
GRIEG Holberg Suite
In this unique program, we celebrate our strings! Grieg's Holberg Suite, a suite of five movements based on 18th-century dance forms, was written in 1884 by Grieg to celebrate the 200th birthday of the Danish-Norwegian humanist and playwright Ludvig Holberg. Popularly known as "Serenade for Strings," Tchaikovsky's Serenade in C Major showcases two of his best-known compositional traits: a gift for graceful melody, and his veneration of Mozart. While every movement is popular, it is the second movement, the "Valse," that will be familiar to many!
